Clevo’s 18.4-inch M98xNU Gaming Laptop

The M98xNU Gaming Laptop is a high performance laptop from Clevo, Taiwan. NEC VersaPro UltraLight VC Notebook

NEC Japan will release its new VersaPro UltraLight VC notebook in January 2009. The notebook features a 12.1 inch LCD display at WXGA resolution with either Intel Celeron 723 or Core 2 Duo SU9300 processor. Other features include 1GB RAM, 80GB hard drive, Intel GS45 Express chipset, Wi-Fi connectivity, Fingerprint sensor, Felica port and SD memory card slot. You can also choose Microsoft Windows XP Professional or Windows Vista Business OS. However, I am not sure the Celeron processor will be able to handle Windows Vista OS. The NEC VersaPro UltraLight VC Notebook is priced at €1,200 upwards, depending on the configuration. [Akihabara]

MSI VR603 15.4-inch Notebook

The VR603 is the latest 15 inch notebook from MSI that features standard specification. The laptop offers Intel Dual-Core / Celeron Processor, up to 4GB DDR2 RAM, a 15.4 inch 1280 x 800 WXGA display, GMA X4500MHD Graphics, and 1.3MP webcam. BenQ’s featherweight Joybook Lite U101 is Atom powered

BenQ has been off the hook for a while now, but they have finally collected themselves well in time for the CES, entering the laptop fray with their latest Joybook Lite U101. Weighing at about 1 kg, the U101 is aimed as a second notebook for the vivid user. It packs a 10.1” 16:9 WSVGA LED backlit screen supporting 1024 x 600 resolutions. This not so big notebook is powered by a 1.6GHz Atom processor for higher energy efficiency and extended battery life which is made possible with SSD-driven, three-cell battery. New ASUS UL Range Laptops Announced

ASUS have announced three new laptops in their UnLimited (UL) range that each boast an impressive 12 hour battery life. The new laptops named the UL30, UL50AG and UL50VG are each launching later this month and are each encased in a brushed aluminium cover creating a stylish look.

The laptops each use the latest Intel CULV processor technology mixed with power settings and energy saving features that achieve 12 hours of battery life.

Price wise the ASUS UL30 13.3″ laptop will cost £599 when launched in the UK. Next up the ASUS UL50AG 15.6″ will cost £699 when launched followed finally by the ASUS UL50VG that will cost £799 that also has a 15.6″ screen. Each will be launched 22nd October.

Other features of the laptops include high definition screens on all models, dual Altec Lansing speakers, AI light sensor technology, chiclet style keyboards with full numeric pads to the side along with multi-touch touchpads.

Two New Budget HP Laptops for Business Types

they ain't revolutionary, but should get the job done. The 14-inch Compaq 515 comes with either an AMD Athlon X2 or Turion X2 processor, while the 15.6-inch Compaq 610 goes the Intel route, with either a Core 2 Duo T5870 or dual-core Celeron.

Both laptops have 1366 by 768 LED-backlit displays, and support up to 8GB of DDR-800 memory. Standard fare includes Wi-Fi, a LightScribe DVD writer, SD card slot, and VGA-output.

The basic $429 Compaq 515 has a 160GB hard disk, but you can up that to a 250GB for more spreadsheet storage power. Graphics are served up by an integrated ATI Radeon HD 3200 GPU.

Though the Compaq 610 has lowly Intel GMA X3100 graphics, even the entry-level $449 model includes a 250GB hard disk as standard.

New Toshiba laptops are small, cheap, have optional dual cores

Speak of the devil. Earlier this morning, Toshiba announced a pair of new consumer ultraportable laptops that will offer users a choice between a single-core processor and one of those dual-core, SU4000-series Pentiums we were just talking about.

The new series comprises the 13.3" Satellite T135 and the 11.6" Satellite T115. Along with the aforementioned CPU choice, both systems will include DDR3 memory, 250GB of 5,400-RPM mechanical storage, 802.11n Wi-Fi, HDMI out, powered eSATA/USB combo ports, multi-touch touchpads, and six-cell batteries with "up to 9 hours of battery life."

The new Satellites will both ship with Windows 7 Home Premium. As a result, Toshiba doesn't plan to release them until the new operating system comes out on October 22.

The Satellite T115 will start at just $449.99 with a weight of 3.49 lbs and either red or black finishes. You'll have to plunk down $599.99 for the bigger Satellite T135, which will weigh a slightly heftier 3.88 lbs. Toshiba will offer Bluetooth and a white finish as options for that model, though.

MSI C-Series Notebooks Introduced

MSI announced six all-new notebooks this week, large-screen models that are a bit of a departure from their netbooks, but still maintain low, affordable price tags. The C-series laptops announced include both 16-inch (the 600 models) and 17-inch (the 700 models) displays, making these adequate desktop replacement computers. The six models are designated as such: CX600, CX700, CR600-013, CR600-017, CR700. Of particular note is the CX600-017 model, which can be upgraded with a Blu-ray disc drive for high-definition movie playback and high-density data storage. This model is equipped with a dual core, Intel Pentium T4200 processor clocked at a speed of 2.4GHz. All C-series models come with a 320GB hard disk drive, a 6-cell battery, and a built-in 1.3-megapixel webcam.

Nokia Introduces the 3G “Booklet” Netbook

Best known as the company that made your cell phone five years ago, Nokia is now entering the very active netbook market with a mini-notebook of their own. The adorably-named Nokia “Booklet” offers a fairly robust array of specifications, the most interesting of which is the integrated 3G connectivity that would allow it to access the Internet anywhere, at all times, much like an iPhone.

It’s likely that the Booklet will ultimately be paired with a wireless plan in the same way Web-enabled cell phones are, though it’s not clear which provider, be it Verizon or AT&T, will be behind this project. The Booklet is set to debut officially in early September, at which point we might discover who is backing its 3G data plan, as well as its pricing and availability.

Four New Asus Eee Netbooks Coming

Details about Asus’s plans for new netbooks have started to emerge and four new mainstream models are worthy of particular attention. These netbooks run between $299 and $429 and are, in Asus’s words, their “good, better, best, and elite” models for everyday netbook users.
The first in the series is the Asus Eee PC 1005HA-E, which has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $299. It’s the base model of the series, with a “good” array of specifications that will suit consumers interested in a simple, barebones netbook that enhances productivity but remains portable. The 1005HA-E has a 10.1-inch LCD display, an Intel ATOM N270 processor, a 0.3MP webcam, and four hours of battery life coming from a three-cell battery.

MSI Wind U150 Coming in 2010

Most netbook laptops are running either Linux or the more user-friendly Windows XP, but Microsoft never intended XP to live on in this form. Windows Vista, however, was not very netbook friendly, so XP survived to fill the game. The next Microsoft OS, Windows 7, has been developed to better serve the netbook market and can finally allow XP to fade into the past, while providing netbook users with a superior operating system that’s contemporary and powerful.

HP Mini 311

The last addition to the HP mobile family is an updated Mini with an 11-inch screen the new HP Mini 311 offers everything that the last generation of HP Mini "companion PCs" delivered ... with a bigger screen and Nvidia ION graphics.

Thanks to ION, the Mini 311 is capable of playing back 1080p high-definition video with smooth playback ... something Atom-based netbook with Intel graphics can't do. As an additional value for Mini owners, HP includes "Syncables" software to help you update files on the go and sync effortlessly with your primary PC. The Mini 311 starts at $399.

HP Mini 110 by STUDIO TORD BOONTJE

This new netbook is essentially a minor refresh of the current 10-inch Mini netbook from HP. The biggest difference isn't inside ... this time you really can judge a netbook by its cover. HP was the first laptop manufacturer to produce lid designs that were printed inside multiple layers of plastics. The "HP Imprint" technology has since been copied by several other companies, but the new Mini 110 is the first laptop to feature a three-dimensional surface known as HP Imprint 3D. It's hard to describe what the lid looks like, but it's essentially multiple layers of fully transparent and partially transparent plastic that create a sense of depth and texture to the design on the lid.

HP worked with designer Tord Boontje to create a unique flora design that weaves delicately around endangered animals and unravels onto the palm rest and touchpad. HP will even offer a range of matching accessories that are covered in the same HP Imprint 3D design.

The Mini 110 comes with a clean desktop as well as a Stardock MyColors custom theme, screen saver, icons and 15 wallpapers designed by Tord Boontje. The Mini 110 starts at $399.

HP Pavilion dm3

The newest member of the popular Pavilion family, the Pavilion dm3 boasts an attractive HD BrightView 13.3-inch diagonal LED screen and your choice of AMD or Intel processors and discrete graphics to meet some pretty demanding performance needs. Think of the Pavilion dm3 like a slightly larger Envy 13 ... without the jaw-dropping price tag.

The lightweight aluminum design keeps the notebook down to just 4.2 pounds and the profile is less than an inch thick thanks to the lack of an optical drive. HP claims the Pavilion dm3 will offer 10 hours of battery life, and we're eager to put those claims to the test. The d.m3 starts at $549.

HP ProBook 5310m

HP took some criticism earlier this year with the release of the ProBook line of business notebooks. These budget-priced laptops were designed to offer small and medium business owners a more affordable alternative to the HP EliteBook line of business notebooks. The HP ProBook 5310m proves HP is paying attention to the critics. The 13-inch ProBook 5310m features a metal chassis similar to the EliteBook line but the notebook itself remains less than 1 inch thick and only 3.7 pounds in weight.

The ProBook 5310m will offer an Intel Core Duo SP9300 processor and up to 7 hours of battery life. Just like the Envy 13 and Envy 15, the ProBook includes HP QuickWeb, allowing users to access the Internet, music, photos, videos in seconds, even when the notebook is shut down. The ProBook 5310m starts at $699.

HP Envy 15

The 15-inch Envy 15 is the big brother to the Envy 13 and offers some impressive performance for such a compact notebook (just 1-inch thin and 5.18 pounds). HP constructed the chassis out of a combination of aluminum and magnesium alloy to give the Envy 15 a durable feeling and keep it as light weight as possible. Inside, you'll find space for two hard drives or high performance SSDs, an Intel Core i7 mobile processor and up to 16GB (that's NOT a typo) of 1066MHz DDR3 system memory.

The laser-etched chassis and high-resolution LED backlit display help keep this notebook attractive to the eye ... though your wallet might not find this laptop too appealing. The Envy 15 starts at $1,799.

HP Envy 13

The newest 13-inch premium consumer notebook from HP promises to provide the ideal balance of durability, mobility and design. Coming in at just 0.8-inch thin and 3.74 pounds, we're inclined to believe HP's marketing on this one.

The Envy 13 is connected to the HP VoodooPC Envy 133 in more ways than just the name. The new Envy 13 includes switchable ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 discrete graphics that deliver high performance when you need it or reduced power consumption when you want as much battery life as possible. Speaking of the battery, the Envy 13 offers an ultra-high capacity battery slice that extends battery life for up to 18 hours! Part of that impressive battery life comes from the use of the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor SL9400 running at 1.86GHz.

As impressive as that sounds, the most striking feature of the Envy 13 has to be the new "HP Radiance Display" that delivers vivid color quality & exceptional brightness thanks to an improved color gamut (82%) and a brightness rating of 410nits. "Beats Audio" also gives the Envy some reasonably impressive speakers for a 13-inch laptop. You might not feel the need to use your earphones with this notebook.
